Spirochetes are usually stereotyped by their race for their axial filaments which are simply part of their genetic structure. Repeated visits to the axial filament salon would be so expensive that a spirochete would have to work a second job at Denny’s on the late night crew just to afford it. Some spirochetes actually enjoy their axial filaments, and flaunt them on the dance floor in mesmerizing corkscrew rotations. This also serves to protect the antigenic flagella from being peeked at by that sicko voyeur host’s immune defenses.
